100 Years of Public Health

Wellness Is Collaborative

Ocean County prioritizes health, and we have our community to thank for it! For a century now, residents have collaborated directly with the Ocean County Health Department (OCHD) to promote wellness and stop the spread of illnesses. Our county is united by a sense of responsibility to our neighbors.

This joint effort depends on awareness, however. To ensure future generations continue this partnership, OCHD is celebrating its centennial by educating the community on the variety of services we offer and the role residents play in preserving public health.

Take a look at the Services & Programs Spotlight below to learn how OCHD protects the county – and how we can all protect each other.

Ocean County’s Health Services Programs Spotlight

Child Development Services

OCHD’s Child Development Services consist of an Early Intervention Program and Special Child Health Services.

The Early Intervention Program (EIP)serves families with children under the age of 3 who are experiencing developmental delays or disabilities, or who have been given a diagnosis with a high probability of developmental delay. Each family receives the attention of a service coordinator, and evaluations are provided at no cost. If the child meets eligibility criteria, OCHD will work to assure access to individualized early intervention services.

Special Child Health Services (SCHS) assists families in caring for children with complex, long-term medical and developmental disabilities or developmental delays.

The program coordinates resources for special-needs children under the age of 22. With parental consent, case managers will work with parent(s) and/or guardian(s) and the physician to evaluate a child’s strengths and needs and develop an Individual Service Plan. This plan accounts for the child’s and family’s medical, educational, developmental, social, and economic needs.
