Communicable Diseases
Community Health Services Coordinator:
Mr. Daniel Regenye, MHA
Communicable diseases are those that can be spread from person to person. Infectious diseases are those caused by some kind of organism. The Community Health Services division is responsible for the control of communicable and other infectious diseases in Ocean County.
There are many activities that we do to help protect our residents from communicable diseases:
Receive reports of cases of disease, keep statistics, and ensure that whatever can be done to identify and eliminate the source of infection, is done. Assure compliance with N.J.A.C. 8:57 of the New Jersey Sanitary Code. Diseases are reported by laboratories and health professionals utilizing the CDS-1 Form [doc 96k] [pdf 73k].
- Conduct disease surveillance and monitor disease trends.
- Perform disease outbreak investigations.
- Notify New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services of reportable communicable diseases and outbreaks.
- Provide public health consultation and education on preventing infectious diseases.
- Emerging Infectious Diseases Control (West Nile Virus, Rabies, Avian Influenza).
- Immunization audits of the Ocean County schools and daycares.
- Conduct influenza and pneumococcal immunization clinics.
- Inspect kennels, pet shops and pounds, as pursuant to NJAC 8:23A.
