100 Years of Public Health

Wellness Is Collaborative

Ocean County prioritizes health, and we have our community to thank for it! For a century now, residents have collaborated directly with the Ocean County Health Department (OCHD) to promote wellness and stop the spread of illnesses. Our county is united by a sense of responsibility to our neighbors.

This joint effort depends on awareness, however. To ensure future generations continue this partnership, OCHD is celebrating its centennial by educating the community on the variety of services we offer and the role residents play in preserving public health.

Take a look at the Services & Programs Spotlight below to learn how OCHD protects the county – and how we can all protect each other.

Adult Vaccination Services: Flu & COVID-19

Vaccination is the most reliable way to protect yourself and loved ones from highly contagious, potentially life-threatening diseases like flu and COVID-19.

Vaccines reduce illness, doctors’ visits, and missed work. They also prevent hospitalizations in the event of breakthrough cases. Adults, especially those aged 65 and older, should be vaccinated against flu. They should receive updated COVID-19 vaccines when recommended by health official.

Flu and COVID-19 vaccinations can be received at a variety of clinics located throughout the community. For the homebound, OCHD can arrange vaccination house calls.

Chronic Disease Services

Chronic diseases are serious health conditions that can be managed with small lifestyle changes.

Fortunately, OCHD provides Live Healthy Ocean County! (LHOC!), a community-based chronic disease screening and education program. LHOC! offers residents screening services, vaccinations, and medication management & education. Participants can learn the risk factors and prevention techniques for common but easily managed conditions.

Services include:

  • Blood Pressure Screening
  • Glucose Screening
  • Cholesterol Screening
  • Pulse Oximetry
  • Health Education
  • Diabetes Education

To ensure convenience and accessibility, these programs are held at public locations throughout the County and at the Ocean County Health Department.

OCHD also maintains an accredited diabetes prevention program, a variety of chronic disease health education programs, and a four-week diabetes self-management education and support program.
