100 Years of Public Health

Wellness Is Collaborative

Ocean County prioritizes health, and we have our community to thank for it! For a century now, residents have collaborated directly with the Ocean County Health Department (OCHD) to promote wellness and stop the spread of illnesses. Our county is united by a sense of responsibility to our neighbors.

This joint effort depends on awareness, however. To ensure future generations continue this partnership, OCHD is celebrating its centennial by educating the community on the variety of services we offer and the role residents play in preserving public health.

Take a look at the Services & Programs Spotlight below to learn how OCHD protects the county – and how we can all protect each other.

Animal Facilities

OCHD operates two animal facilities:

  • Northern Ocean County
    Animal Facility
    615 Freemont Avenue in Jackson
  • Southern Ocean County
    Animal Facility
    360 Haywood Road in Manahawkin

Both facilities provide temporary housing for dogs and cats, maintain a 24-hour receiving service for stray animals, and offer adoption services. Features of the shelters include indoor/outdoor dog runs, cat rooms, isolation areas, and surgical facilities.

Every pet we adopt out is spayed/neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations, and has received a general health exam by our facility veterinarian, all included with your adoption fee.

Rabies Clinics

Both the Northern and Southern Ocean County Animal Facilities offer free rabies vaccinations for cats and dogs. Vaccinations are by appointment only, and residents must call to schedule.

Clinics run from 10:30am to 12pm. 60 appointments are available per clinic. There is a maximum of four pets per person. Only cats and dogs will be accepted.
