The Consumer Health Division responds to reports from the public regarding public health nuisances. These include (but are not limited to) the following issues:

  • Heat Concerns in Rental Units (enforced seasonally)
  • Water Supply
  • Sewage Disposal (septic system malfunctions or overflows)
  • Insect/Rodent Control (rats, mice, mosquitoes, roaches, etc.)
  • Poison Ivy
  • Ragweed


The Consumer Health Division does not enforce local housing codes. Please contact your local municipality for housing code, building code or zoning issues. The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs also inspects rental properties that contain 3 or more units.
