(Manahawkin) – The Fall Furfest and Pet Costume Parade is back for the 15th straight year at the Southern Ocean County Animal Facility (SOCAF) on Saturday, October 28, 2023.
The big bash begins at 1 p.m. sharp to register your pet followed by the parade and the judging of the costumes getting underway at 1:30p.m. SOCAF is located at 360 Haywood Road in Manahawkin.

“If you’re looking for a fun way to celebrate Halloween with the whole family – pets included - then this is the event for you,” said Gary Quinn, Ocean County Commissioner Deputy Director and liaison to the Ocean County Board of Health.
“Every year the shelter staff and volunteers work very hard to ensure residents have a memorable day when they participate in this event with their pets. Everyone really celebrates the spirit of the holiday by coming up with some very creative and unique costume ideas.”

The Halloween Costume Parade will once again feature prizes and ribbons in the following categories; Scariest, Best Group, Funniest, Most Original and Best in Show! (For everyone’s safety pets must be on a leash or crated for the event).

“This parade just gets bigger and better year after year,” explained Daniel Regenye, Ocean County Health Department (OCHD) Public Health Coordinator. “The pets showing off their costumes never fails to put smiles on the faces of all the participants and visitors – making for a real special day.”

Regenye continued, “Having the Friends of the Southern Ocean County Animal Facility volunteer group as a dedicated partner always helps us put on a great show with their generosity and support.”

However, the event is more than just the pet parade. It is also a great opportunity to showcase all the loving cats and dogs the animal facilities have available for adoption and in need of forever homes. Every dog and cat adopted from the Ocean County Animal Facilities receives a veterinary exam, age-appropriate vaccinations, is spayed/neutered, and microchipped.

The Southern Ocean County Animal Facility and Northern Ocean County Animal Facility, in Jackson, are operated under the care of the Ocean County Health Department.
